My ongoing journey as a:
Registered Nurse
Freelance Web Developer
Computer Science Student
About Me
With my roots in healthcare, my passion for programming is based on the vast possibilities of designing and creating applications bounded only by my growing abilities. Stumbling into this world by pure chance, I have self-taught web development by seeking inspiring mentors and hands-on learning opportunities. This journey even culminated in my own little company, Beltline Innovation Technologies!
I have had the great joy of meeting industry experts at various conferences and newcomers to the industry in classes at the University of Calgary.
Education

Bachelors of Science in Computer Science
Class of 2025
My goals with this experience are to hone my technical knowledge, build a professional network, and develop a strong theoretical foundation for creative problem solving and innovative projects throughout my career.

Bachelors of Nursing
Class of 2020
As I move into the tech industry, I will carry forward invaluable experience from my time as a nurse, including cross-professional communication, collaborative decision-making, and working with complex interdisciplinary teams.
Languages
While my professional focus has been on web development, I use personal projects to explore and develop my proficiency in other areas including game development, desktop applications, and lifestyle automation scripts.

Tech Experience
Izzy Inc.
Full Stack Developer Intern
Izzy Inc. is a startup which offers a cutting edge case management and call centre automation platform to crisis centres providing valuable care to victims of all forms of abuse. My work here focussed on data management to onboard new crisis centres by migrating all crucial and sensitive client data to the Izzy platform. I also transitioned to working as a full stack web developer to sharpen my skills in frontend technologies and gain industry experience in maintaining a complex backend and database.

Beltline Innovation Technologies
Co-Founder
I founded Beltline Innovation Technologies to hone my skills through experience, learn from talented colleagues, and engage with Calgary’s local business community. Over the past year I have gained valuable skills in business-to-business communication, web design, and the various microservices in web development offered by AWS, Squarespace, Netlify, and many more.

AirSprint Private Aviation
Summer IT Intern
Working under the Director of IT, I learned to troubleshoot technical problems in real time and build software solutions that anticipated similar or worse issues. The airline industry allows for minimal downtime and working to architect an ever-growing infrastructure to support that led to my greatest learnings at the technical and business levels.
Projects

PokerNite.App (WIP)
In an effort to contribute to open source projects that I am passionate about and exercise my formal knowledge of interface design, I have undertaken the challenge of redesigning a PokerNite.app. This is a website for the management of poker home games so that the complexity of hosting a game and tracking the statistics of players and sessions becomes trivial. Keeping the users in mind during this redesign is paramount and my approach to this redesign includes user surveys and the implementation of optimal new technologies to improve the feel and utility of the existing system.

Ed's Gas Club
Ed's Gas Club is a client of BIT out of Revelstoke, BC who provides competitive gas pricing to locals and passers through. Ed is an involved member of the Revelstoke community and working with him was a great insight into how to better connect with a unique demographic through the technologies available and accessible to them. Beyond simply increasing the presence of the business with a well-designed website with an emphasis on SEO, collaboration with the client led to a streamlined automation of their membership purchasing and renewals system using e-commerce tools.

E-BubblePack
An intersection of my healthcare background and technical knowledge, I built this desktop application in Java as a tool for users to adhere to medication schedules. While addressing an issue that every healthcare worker has noted in their patients, this project was an exercise in best practices for object-oriented programming.
Nursing Experience

Renal Dialysis
2021 - Present
As a dialysis nurse, I have had the pleasure to work with a younger patient population with active lives yet dealing with a chronic renal disease. The perspective, along with the specialized skills, I have learned here is invaluable.

Intensive Care Unit - Helper RN
2021 - 2022
This opportunity to support the hardest hit subsections of healthcare at the height of the pandemic gave me unique insights into our global experience with COVID-19 that have informed me as an individual ever since. Compassion and empathy are traits that are ingrained into every individual I worked with there and I am proud to have supported them in that time.

COVID Community Testing
2020-2021
This was a once-in-a-lifetime role where I met the most diverse sections of the community and workforce. I worked with nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics, dental hygenists and more in a time of crisis and uncertainty and yet it was one of the most positive work environments I've had the pleasure to be a part of.

Long Term Care
2020
Arguably my most challenging role as a nurse as the care I provided was far more emotional and mental than physical. Seeing past the ailments and trauma of these aged and sick individuals was a skill that I am glad to have learned early as a healthcare professional.
Hobbies & Interests
I have a deep love for almost any sport you can name and will try anything at least once. Volleyball and badminton have been longstanding favourites of mine and I have recently joined the snowboarding community, as well!
I also love a good video game that I can settle into for an evening. Single player games with care and love in the art, including sound and voice acting, is the peak genre. I would also be remiss if I did not mention my love for Super Smash Bros.
My interests are incomplete without mentioning my passion for food. I love to cook and I love to eat. I love to hang out with friends over a drink and/or a plate of wings and I love date nights with my partner at a restaraunt where the ambience is priced into the tiny servings. That's as simply as I can put it.
